Cleaning Makeup Brushes

If you love to wear makeup, this is very important.

Why should you clean your makeup brushes?

  • Acne Prevention. When you use your brushes often, they begin to collect everything and anything on your face such as dirt, oil, dust, etc. The continue use of a dirty makeup brush can clog your pores, leading to more breakouts.
  • Makeup Application. When a brush is dirty, makeup application is not precise. You are unable to get a natural blend with your makeup.
  • Germs. Your brushes can also collect bacterica. Eeek! This is also very important to be aware of if you are sharing your makeup brushes with others.
  • Long-Lasting Brushes. Cleaning your makeup brushes will remove the built up product, make them softer and help them last longer.

What I use to clean my makeup brushes:

Japonesque Makeup Brush Cleanser

I found this makeup brush cleaner at Ulta before I knew anything about cleaning brushes, but I absolutely love this stuff. Just spray a few times on the brush and scrub everything away on a napkin, towel, etc. I believe this product has a few different scents, but rosewater is my favorite and it makes my brushes smell so good! I love to take this cleanser with my while I am traveling and don’t have much time to thoroughly clean out my brushes. I usually clean my brushes/sponges once every week. This is a quick, but helpful option.

If I do have time to clean my makeup brushes thoroughly, I usually soak them in warm water with soap or shampoo first.
